Player Muster

A pickleball group asked me to design a logo for the team and also to design a way for them to reserve courts based on how many people signed up. Each court had a leader requirement – the leader was tasked with reserving the actual court for the team they were on.

The first challenge was to create a logo for the group. I went with a green motif to express the idea of a “tennis club,” and chose fonts and designs to match that ideal.

The users also wanted only to interact with the app from their phones, so I chose a mobile-first design approach. The existing games are listed in easy-to-read cards with actionable carets to the right.

Adding a new game is a simple validated form that slides up from the bottom of the screen. The “Save” button becomes active when the user fills in all the needed details. I thought it would be a nice add-on to allow the user to add themselves as the first player in the group. After tapping “Save” the user goes back to the home screen with a new card on the list.

Tapping one of the existing games on the home screen slides the “join” screen from the right. Existing players and open spots are shown. Typing a new name in the “Sign up” box instantly adds that player’s name on this screen – allowing for spouses, partners, etc. to sign up multiple people at the same time.
